{{Boss

|Synopsis= Commanders are human officers of Imperial Sandora. Two appear as Bosses. One is in Seles, and the other is in the Marshland. They are separate enemies with unique appearances, stats, and abilities.

|Story1=

Not to be confused with the Great Commander who arrested Shana, a Commander confronts Dart shortly after he arrives in Seles. Upon questioning by Dart, the Commander willfully divulges that Shana has been taken to Hellena Prison. Joined by two Knights of Sandora, the Commander engages Dart in combat and is slain.

|Story2=

In the Marshland...

|Combat=

Being only the second battle in the game, defeating the Commander is straightforward. He attacks both physically and magically. If the Knights of Sandora with him are defeated or run away, he will buff himself and deal twice as much physical damage. He also heals himself slightly when his health is low. Consistent Double Slashes from Dart will eliminate him easily.
# Unlike other creatures regarded as "Pets" by Fruegel, Jiango appears to have a large neck collar and a wrist restraint; both have broken chains dangling from them. This could have the implication that Jiango is also a prisoner in Hellena.
# Jiango bears a striking resemblance to the Rancor, a creature that appears within the Star Wars films and universe.
{{Boss

|Synopsis= Jiango is a monstrous Earth-elemental creature held in the basement of Hellena Prison. Often referred to as a "Pet" by Fruegel or as "The Monster" by the Wardens, the prisoners themselves are simply referred to as "Feed".

|Story1=

While not seen directly in the first visit of Hellena Prison, Jiango is alluded to when a Hellena Warden attempts to intimidate a Knight of Basil. The warden tells the knight he would regret not being killed on the battlefield, as now he will be fed to "The Monster". Later, when the party meets Fruegel after rescuing Shana, Fruegel tells the party that Dart and Lavitz would be "Feed for the pet". Shana is only exempt due to the Hooded Man's orders that she be unharmed.

|Story2=

During the second visit to Hellena Prison, after being made to navigate a new and unfamiliar path unavailable during the first visit, the party finds themselves surrounded by Hellena Wardens whilst standing over a metal grate. The Wardens taunt the party, telling them that their strength in battle doesn't matter, as they are still "Feed". The metal grate then opens, plunging the party into a cave-like dungeon with multiple bones and skulls visible. After a quick investigation of the room, the party hears multiple agitated roars. Jiango, a creature that has lived deep underground within the prison for ages, reveals itself and the battle begins.

|Combat=
Once the battle begins, dialogue text will appear on screen that reads : "This is Jiango! If we put him to sleep, we can beat him easily!". If the player was able to find a Sachet while exploring up to this point, they can use it to put Jiango to sleep for 3 turns, during which the beast will be unable to attack.

After a quick investigation of the room, the party hears multiple agitated roars, and the battle with Jiango begins.

# Within the foreground of the dungeon, two human skulls on a rock are easy to identify; affirming the rumors of "feed for the monster."
# Jiango has been living deep underground in Hellena Prison for a very long time, possibly before the prison itself was built from ancient ruins.
# Atlow Joined the Hero Competition in Lohan purely to show off his power, as he did not care about the prize money.
# Should Dart lose the battle, Atlow will be disqualified due to coating his arrows in poison. This is likely the cause of the Fear status effect.
Jiango has a chance to retaliate when attacked, using one of their three attacks upon receiving damage, and ignores turn order to do so. Their most basic attack consists of walking over to a single party member, picking them up, and slamming them down. A secondary attack consists of Jiango jumping up and down in place, causing stalactites to fall onto the party. Lastly, they have a single target breath attack that inflicts Confusion.
Once defeated, Jiango has a 100% chance to drop a Sachet.

After a quick investigation of the room, the party hears multiple agitated roars, and the battle with Jiango begins.
If the player was able to find a Sachet while exploring up to this point, they can use it to put Jiango to sleep for 3 turns.

{{Boss

|Synopsis= Jiango is a monstrous Earth-elemental creature held in the basement of Hellena Prison. Often referred to as a "Pet" by Fruegel or by "The Monster" by the Wardens, the prisoners themselves are simply referred to as "Feed".

|Story1=

While not seen directly in the first visit of Hellena Prison, Jiango is alluded to when a Hellena Warden attempts to intimidate a Knight of Basil, telling him he would regret not being killed on the battlefield, as he would be fed to "The Monster". Another mention is when the party meets Fruegel after rescuing Shana, where Fruegel tells the party that Dart and Lavitz would be "Feed for the pet" (Shana only being exempt due to previous orders that she be unharmed from the Hooded Man)

After a quick investigation of the room, the party hears multiple agitated roars, and the battle with Jiango begins.

|Combat=

Once the battle begins, dialogue text tells us "This is Jiango! If we put him to sleep, we can beat him easily!". If the player was able to find a Sachet while exploring up to this point, they can indeed do that, as using it on him will not only deal 10 damage, it will also put Jiango to sleep for roughly 3-4 turns.

Boasting devastating Earth elemental attacks, a high hp pool of 1280, as well as strong physical defense, Jiango is a respectable challenge in this point of the game. This can be mitigated through the use of the aforementioned Sachet, or through exploiting his weakness to magic.

Jiango has a few attacks available. His most basic attack consists of him walking over to a single party member, picking them up, and slamming them down. A secondary attack consists of him jumping up and down in place, causing stalagtites to fall onto the party. Lastly, he has a single target breath attack that inflicts Confusion, causing your party members to attack themselves, and can easily lead to a game over if done on a physically strong character such as Lavitz, or a fast character such as Haschel.

Once defeated, Jiango has a 100% chance to drop a Sachet.

|Trivia=

# While in Jiangos cave, the player can frequently hear his roars within the Hellena Prison soundtrack.

# Within the foreground of Jiangos cave map, the player can clearly see two human skulls on a rock, further cementing his diet into the players mind.
The party arrives in Hoax, and Lavitz tells the others they need to meet with Kaiser, leader of the Eighth Knighthood. Dart and Shana comment on how the war caused the town's fortified appearance, to which Lavitz briefly notes the change was unwanted but necessary, and then has the party refocus and head into the war room to meet Kaiser.

Lavitz greets Kaiser in the war room, with Kaiser showing concern for Lavitz's unit being wiped out. Lavitz laments it, feeling the loss was his fault, but remains optimistic in winning the war while introducing Dart and Shana. Kaiser is excited to see Dart as he heard the younger man had rescued Lavitz. Dart asks for the mission briefing, and Kaiser notes the main concern is the Feyrbrand Sandora is said to wield. Lavitz suggests it is unwise to go looking for the dragon without more information, and it is better to prepare defenses in Hoax while watching for what Sandora will do next. Dart notes they will have to be fast in detecting the enemy. Kaiser agrees with Dart and Lavitz, so he suggests the two of them stand night watch. He notes it is unwise for Shana to go as well, so Kaiser asks her to cook for the the knights. Shana agrees and excitedly tells Dart that he will enjoy the food - Lavitz is hesitant about Shana's cooking, a feeling shared by Dart, who is less than convincing in his attempts to pretend otherwise. Either way, Kaiser attempts to diffuse the situation to similarly poor effect, but ultimately the matter is moved past. Kaiser has Dart and Shana look around Hoax while he continues briefing Lavitz. After Dart and Shana are finished they return to Kaiser, who brings Dart and Lavitz to their guard posts.
Night falls, and Dart comments it will be easy to tell if the Dragon is approaching since the owls in the forest would stop making noise - as he can still hear the owls, Dart decides to go get food. Lavitz asks Dart if he's checking on Shana, which Dart denies. Lavitz tells Dart to return quickly, but while going down the stairs, Dart hears the owls scatter and realizes the enemy has arrived. Arrows fly from the rear of Hoax, causing some casualties. Kaiser orders his men to defend the gate where enemy soldiers have broken in, with Dart and Lavitz jumping in to support them. Afterwards, an elite soldier of Sandora lands on the top of the gate, and Dart goes up to face the elite. Lavitz joins Dart after defeating the remaining soldiers below, and they fight the elite soldier together.

After defeating the soldier, Dart and Lavitz are shocked to see a Giganto, a giant human-like warrior, appear below. Lavitz tells Dart no one could stand up to the Giganto so far. Dart is unfettered, saying the Giganto is no dragon. Despite this, after fighting the Giganto, Dart finds himself fallen at his feet. The Giganto is about to swing his axe to finish Dart when a dark-armored, winged knight flies in to stop the killing blow with her sword. She tells Dart to "wake up", calling a him a Dragoon. Dart's memento of his father then starts to shine brightly as Dart shouts and a dragon wing-shaped fire blast launches from him into the Giganto. Lavitz watches, mouth agape as the Giganto gets launched across the gate area. A stunned Lavitz turns to Dart and sees Dart is now wearing a red armor similar to the woman who saved him. The woman lands without the armor to reveal she is Rose, who saved Dart from the dragon earlier.

After seeing Dart's transformation and the arrival of Rose, the remaining Sandoran forces retreat. Lavitz and Dart wonder what happened to Dart, and Rose simply tells them a dragoon was born. As she says this, the Giganto who was knocked down, Kongol, sits up to the slight surprise of Rose. Kongol tells the party he will get revenge on them and then retreats. Shana runs out from headquarters to see Dart, who reverts back to normal upon seeing Shana safe. Dart then collapses, with Shana and Lavitz shouting their concern over him.

Later that day, Shana is shouting at Rose, demanding to know who she is and what happened to Dart, who is lying in bed. Rose tries to defend herself when Dart awakens. Rose greets Dart while alluding to a previous encounter with him. Shana asks if they know each other. Rose explains she saved Dart twice, but Shana (and Lavitz) ask Dart to explain. Dart either jokes Rose is important to him or simply acknowledges she saved him, but either way he credits Rose with helping him get to Seles. Shana realizes the person who helped Dart against the Dragon was Rose. Dart confirms this and thanks Rose for saving him, which Rose says she only did because she wanted to. Dart wonders why Rose came to Hoax, and she tells him it was because she believed Dart possessed a Dragoon Spirit and wanted to test if Dart could be a Dragoon. Lavitz asks why she knows about Dragoons, but Rose simply says it's good to know things. Lavitz states that not many people know about Dragoons, who helped humans defeat the Winglies in the Dragon Campaign, and only learned about them himself from Minister Noish. Dart asks Rose if she only saved him because of the Dragoon Spirit. Rose says she didn't know at first, but now she thinks it's because the party reminds her of her previous companions. Rose explains her friends took control during troubled times and always knew what needed to be done, and she sees the party doing the same. Shana asks where Rose's friends are, and Rose says they are gone. Shana apologizes to Rose and says she misjudged her, which Rose brushes off and says she is used to it. A Knight of Basil suddenly comes in asking for Kaiser, and says Sandora has attacked The Seventh Fort with the Dragon. Lavitz asks where the Dragon came from, and the knight says it has a nest in the forest past Volcano Villude. Lavitz wants to have all of the knights attack the Dragon's Nest, but Rose says overwhelming the Dragon with numbers will not be enough. Instead, she suggests they may defeat the Dragon using the power of Dragoons, which currently consists of only herself and Dart. Lavitz excitedly agrees, with Dart either expressing hesitation (which Rose will encourage him out of) or confidence, but either way he expresses that he felt the power of the Dragoon and believes he can defeat the dragon. Kaiser tells Dart and Rose they are the only ones who can save Basil by defeating the dragon, and he suggests Shana should stay behind. Shana disagrees and says she will go too and help fight. The party hears the Dragon in the distance as they contemplate their eventual fight against it.

Before leaving Hoax, Dart and Rose overhear two knights discussing Dart's transformation last night, one even calling him the messiah of Basil. Rose uses this as an opportunity to call out Dart's inexperience as a dragoon but also to offer him some training before they head to the Marshland.

Hellena Prison is an island prison on the southern coast of Serdio. A single drawbridge is the only way in and out. The drawbridge leads into a mouth-like structure as the black stone island is carved in the resemblance of a head. Its eyes and skull-like nose glow with fire and black smoke rises from several points. Guards patrol nearly every room, attacking intruders without hesitation. Their leader, Fruegel, is a man who greatly abuses his power. Under his rule, the prison's reputation is one of cruelty, where prisoners who go in, never come out.

Story
After making his way through the Forest, Dart arrives at the Hellena Prison path. The path to the prison is incredibly narrow and leads to a single drawbridge with no cover. Dart hesitates, considering a plan. Fortunately, a merchant's caravan arrives shortly after him. Dart tails the caravan and hides behind the merchandise.

At the gate, The Merchant converses with the guard, explaining that his wares include "meat and fish." Dart meanwhile hides on the side of the caravan opposite to the guard's tower. The Merchant asks about the increased demand for food shipments, which the guard dismisses aggressively as he begins his search of the caravan. Dart is successful at sneaking around the guard during the search. The guard returns to his tower, permits entry, and Dart dives into the back of the caravan to cross the drawbridge into Hellena Prison.

<br><span class="mw-customtoggle-myDivision">Read More</span>
<div class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" id="mw-customcollapsible-myDivision">

After safely entering Hellena Prison, Dart jumps out of the caravan and startles The Merchant, who calls out in fear and quickly is followed up by a guard. A fight ensues. Making short work of the guard, Dart assures The Merchant that he will not be harmed and the Merchant swears to secrecy. Dart is now able to buy items from The Merchant. Outside the stables, guards patrol in rhythmic paths.

Dart ascends the prison through the means of a pully elevator system, located outside of the prison cells. The elevators and flooring are uneven wood construction on brick or carved stone. Fire torches light the hallways and exterior entryways. Once Dart enters the prison tower on the first floor, there is the guards' immediate alarm and a cutscene begins. Two guards are harassing their new prisoners, knights of Basil, taunting them and eluding that they will soon be fed to Freugel's monster. A fight breaks out as a prisoner attempts to escape. Running in from an adjacent hallway, a strong spearman in green defends the knights from the guards and orders them to continue on to the castle. Unfortunately, additional Hellena guards intercept the escaping knights. The prisoners are thrown off the floor and to their deaths.

Dart joins the fight and is quickly introduced to the spearman, who is the honorable Lavitz Slambert, Head of the First Knighthood in the Kingdom of Basil. They fend off guards together before Lavitz turns on Dart, spear clashing with sword. Dart quickly introduces himself, explaining that "he is not the enemy." They fight off another wave of guards before they can discuss their reasons for being in Hellena Prison in depth. Dart explains his need to rescue Shana and Lavitz insists that they travel together to ensure their ability to escape.

They travel together, eventually questioning why Shana was the only one with specialized security and the only one imprisoned from Seles. The key on top of the crate obtained, they travel to an adjacent prison tower, fight off more guards, and unlock Shana's door. Lavitz keeps watch as Dart enters. Shana had heard the commotion and recognized Dart's voice. She is happy to see her friend after five years, and the two reconcile as the soundtrack plays Shana's Theme. After, Shana and Dart leave the cell and rejoin with Lavitz. Outside more guards have arrived.

After the battle, Dart is worried about Shana and fusses over her. Shana counters that she is no longer a young girl and insists that she can fight for herself. Shana draws a bow that was resting outside a nearby cell. Lavitz is impressed that both she and Dart survived in Hellena, commending Shana's strength, but Dart cannot imagine Shana as any different from the childhood friend from his memory whom he must protect.

Meanwhile, Freugel has been alerted of the party's escape. In his anger, Freugel throws one of his men from the skyline bridge. Freugel barks to the other guard to recapture the girl, alive, as explicitly ordered by Emperor Doel.

Together, the group returns to the first floor but are intercepted by the Warden Fruegal, who eludes that he will defeat them and feed the men to his pet. The evil warden is sure to include that although capturing Shana was an order from Majesty Doel, because the task was so trivial, destroying Seles was an additional command from Fruegel himself. Dart lashes out in anger and combat begins. Fruegal is not killed in the altercation, but this allows the party to escape the prison opportunistically and flee to the Prairie by horseback. Fruegel's men are hot on their tail.

After their escape, Fruegal and the mysterious black-robed Hooded Man discuss the warden's failure to keep the girl. The Hooded Man demands Fruegel to mend his mistakes; otherwise, he will tell the Emperor. The mistake is not dire, it is assured. The Hooded Man calmly reports that all is going according to plan.
Dart, Shana, Lavitz, Rose, and Haschel rush to the king's rescue. Upon entering Helena Prison, there is a cutscene where King Albert is shown being held captive on the roof of Helena Prison by the cruel head warden, Fruegal. Fruegal threatens that he will kill King Albert at sunrise should The Hooded Man not appear to stop him, as they only need the king's body. King Albert refuses to speak to Fruegal until Fruegal goads him with the idea that anyone who comes to the king's aid will be killed. King Albert then becomes animated, imploring that no one be hurt as those were the terms of which he agreed to submit to capture. Hearing a report that Dart and Lavitz were seen on the prison grounds, Fruegal insists that he will kill King Albert and the rescue party and laughs maniacally, ending the cutscene.

(The party fight guards, travel on elevators at a different section of the Prison, and must fight Fruegal's Pet, Jiango.)

The party fight their way to the roof of Hellana Prison by dawn, just as Fruegal is pulling his club back to complete the promised coup de grace. Shana intercepts the blow with an arrow shot, initiating the final battle against the leader of Hellena Prison. Fruegal is slain, once and for all. The battle over, the party are startled to hear the king cry out in pain. The Hooded Man had entered during the fight and was stealing the Moon Gem that had been sealed inside of the king. Lavitz lunges to intercept, doning his dragoon armor and diving at The Hooded Man. Tragically, Lavitz is cut down by The Hooded Man in one blow with what Rose will later explain is a Dragon Buster sword. The Hooded Man, revealed to be the undefeatable hero Lloyd, escapes, leaving the party to mourn their lost member. The dragoon spirit leaves Lavitz and flies into the air to find its next chosen one, only to return and float before King Albert. The king accepts the stone and leaves the prison with the party.
The party make their way into the Volcano Villude when the ground starts to rumble. Lavitz wonders if the cause is a volcanic eruption. Rose says it's not, and a large fiery bird soon appears in the distance. Rose notes the creature is Fire Bird and is another problem on top of the dragon. Dart suggests avoiding it, but the party is spotted and chased further into Volcano Villude by Fire Bird. They manage to lose Fire Bird and make their way deeper into the volcanic place.
Further in, Shana kneels down briefly and says she's feeling strange. Shana says she hears something calling her and runs off. Dart chases after her, and the party come to a large stone statue laying in the lava. Dart asks Shana if the statue was calling her. Shana says she's not sure but hasn't heard the voice since reaching the statue. Dart wonders if it is alive, but Shana warns him not get close to it. Rose notes it is alive and tells them it is a Virage, creatures used by Winglies to fight in the Dragon Campaign to same way humans used dragons. As Shana asks how the Virage could still be alive, the place begins to shake. Rose says a desire for revenge against humans or dragoons could be keeping it alive, so they have to finish it. Dart suggests they run, but a bright light shines from the Virage as a battle ensues.

With a blow from his sword, Dart knocks the Virage back into the lava, which sends lava splashing up at the party. Lavitz suggests leaving the area as it is too dangerous. Shana is knelt down, exhausted, so Dart and Lavitz help her up. The three make their way out as Dart shouts at Rose to run. Rose just watches the Virage sink beneath the lava before walking back to the rest of the party.

Shortly after encountering the Virage, the party hear a man shouting for help along some cliffs. Dart asks if they heard something, and Shana points to a man hanging by his shirt on a cliff. The man shouts for help, saying he slipped, so Dart and Shana walk over and pull the man to safety. The man thanks them for saving him and offers Shana a Sapphire Pin as further thanks. She turns him down, saying she can't take such a pricey reward. The man insists, and Dart tells Shana to take it because it's hard for men to go back on decisions. Shana thanks the man, who introduces himself as Dabas from Lohan, and accepts the pin from him. Dabas explains he was looking for a "Burning Gem" when he slipped and that he's an antique merchant. He asks the party to come by his shop if they are ever in Lohan, and then he walks off. Shana comments that Dabas is funny before the party continues going through Volcano Villude.

Close to the exit, Fire Bird appears from the lava and uses fire to block all escape routes. The party fight Fire Bird and defeat him.

On their way out of Volcano Villude, the party encounter Dabas again, who offers to sell them something before heading back to Lohan. The party continue on to the Nest of Dragon.
