He rose to power after killing his older brother, "to save Serdio from an incompetent leader named Carlo." Emperor Doel had a wife named Katrina, who died during the war to unknown cause. Doel was also in posession of a Dragon in his castle, which can be seen on one frame with researchers standing around it. The fact that The Commander believed in Doel, and claimed he only became bloodthiursty after a mysterious figure began to pull at his strings, giving further credence to the idea that Doel's intentions, if not his actions were good.
