Combat
Fire Bird begins battle using physical attacks against either the entire party simultaneously or individual targets. When weakened, it switches its party-wide attacks to Fire -elemental magic attacks instead. Every time Fire Bird is targeted by any physical attack, including Dragoon Additions and even if they miss, it has a chance to ignore turn order and respond immediately. The possible responses are cyclic. It may either use any of its normal attacks, summon Volcano Balls, or force the Volcano Balls to detonate and deal damage in that order. If there are no Volcano Balls in battle when it tries to make them explode, it does nothing instead. When it uses any of these responses, it will not respond the same way again until it has used the other two responses. Whenever there are Volcano Balls in battle, Fire Bird will always force them to detonate on its next regular turn. Otherwise, it uses its regular attacks.
Traits
Bosses often possess passive effects which modify standard battle mechanics. None of these are given official names, so the community used approximate names.
Abilities
Boss behavior often changes from player input as most of them use "if → then" rules. Conditions are criteria that must be met in order for a Boss to take a particular action. With multiple eligible actions, the Boss selects one at random. Below are some key terms that appear frequently, so are defined here for brevity.
Auto - Found under the Conditions column, this means the Action will be used on the enemy’s next turn if the other conditions are met.
Ignore Turn Order - Usually paired with the Retaliate action, this means the current values which determine turn order do not change from this action being taken.
Conditions | Action | Target | Effect | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Presto Fire | Single | Inflicts 1x Physical damage | ||
HP > 60% | Fire Array | Party | Inflicts .5x Physical damage | |
HP ≤ 60% | Molten Drive | Party | Inflicts .5x Fire -elemental magic damage | |
Volcano Ball in battle | Eruption | Party | Inflicts 1x physical damage as many times as there are Volcano Balls, up to three. Characters may be hit multiple times or not at all. If four Volcano Balls exist, one deals 0 damage. All Volcano Balls removed from battle. | Always uses Eruption on next regular turn if at least one Volcano Ball is in battle |
Targeted by Addition | Retaliate | Attacking character | Fire Bird uses Presto Fire, Fire Array, or Molten Drive | Fire Bird has a chance to use one of three retaliatory actions. It uses Retaliate, Summon Volcano Ball, and Eruption in rotational sequence. If no Volcano Balls exist when it tries to use Eruption, it does nothing instead. |
