An '''element''' is a characteristic that modifies a combat unit's weaknesses and resistances in battle. Sometimes an element is referred to in-game as a ''"base."'' All nine playable party characters have an element, and so does almost every enemy. Some attacks, especially magical attacks, also have an element. There are a total of seven elements: fire, water, wind, earth, light, darkness, and thunder. A unit without an element is considered to be ''non-elemental''.

Notice that although the game specifically identifies the color of thunder as magenta, or pink, it is arguably actually violet, or purple. Except in this article specifically, this wiki also identifies elements with certain stylization. They are: <span style=background-color:red;color:white> '''Fire''' </span> <span style=background-color:lightblue;> '''Water''' </span> <span style=background-color:lightgreen;> '''Wind''' </span> <span style=background-color:tan;> '''Earth''' </span> <span style=background-color:yellow> '''Light''' </span> <span style=background-color:darkblue;color:white> '''Darkness''' </span> <span style=background-color:pink;> '''Thunder''' </span> and ''non-elemental''.
=Resistance and Weakness=
Like resists like. Whenever a combat actor is targeted by an attack that has the same element as the actor, the attack deals half of the normally expected damage. For example, a fire-elemental attack that normally does 10 damage before accounting for element will deal only 5 damage to Dart or any other fire-elemental actor.

Six of the seven elements have an opposing element. Whenever a combat actor is targeted by an attack of the opposing element, the attack deals double the normally expected damage. For example, a water-elemental attack that normally does 10 damage before accounting for element will deal 20 damage to Dart or any other fire-elemental actor. The opposing elements are:
===Opposing Elements===
* fire opposes water
With the exception of {{thunder}} and {{non-elemental}}, each element has an opposite. They can be paired together as:
* wind opposes earth
*{{fire}} and {{water}}
* light opposes darkness
*{{wind}} and {{earth}}
Thunder and non-elemental have no opposition, and they do normal damage to all targets regardless of element.
*{{light}} and {{darkness}}

===Variable Multipliers===
*When an attack and its target are opposite elements, such as {{fire}} and {{water}}, the attack is increased by a 1.5x damage multiplier.
*When an attack and its target are the same element, excluding {{non-elemental}}, the attack is reduced by a 0.5x damage multiplier.

When using the special command during combat, the element of the [[Dragoon]] who initiated the transformation becomes an additional variable modifier until they transform back.
*When an attack and the element of the special field are opposites, such as {{earth}} and {{wind}}, the attack is reduced by a 0.5x damage multiplier.
*When an attack and the element of the special are the same, excluding {{non-elemental}}, the attack is increased by a 1.5x damage multiplier.
Note: The Divine Dragoon special field applies a 1.5x damage multiplier only to its own spells of Divine DG Cannon and Divine DG Ball.

Element Colors.webp

Elements can enhance or diminish damage during combat depending on whether attacks and their targets share an element or are opposites. While there are 8 elements, each combatant and magical attack possesses one predetermined element that never changes. With the use of certain weapons, party members can also imbue their physical attacks with an element as well. A combatant's element is revealed by the color of the window displaying their name when selected. The elements and their corresponding colors are as follows respective to the graphic to the right in descending order:

  1.  Fire
  2.  Water
  3.  Wind
  4.  Earth
  5.  Light
  6.  Darkness
  7.  Thunder
  8.  Non-Elemental

Opposing Elements

With the exception of  Thunder  and  Non-Elemental , each element has an opposite. They can be paired together as:

  •  Fire  and  Water
  •  Wind  and  Earth
  •  Light  and  Darkness

Variable Multipliers

  • When an attack and its target are opposite elements, such as  Fire  and  Water , the attack is increased by a 1.5x damage multiplier.
  • When an attack and its target are the same element, excluding  Non-Elemental , the attack is reduced by a 0.5x damage multiplier.

When using the special command during combat, the element of the Dragoon who initiated the transformation becomes an additional variable modifier until they transform back.

  • When an attack and the element of the special field are opposites, such as  Earth  and  Wind , the attack is reduced by a 0.5x damage multiplier.
  • When an attack and the element of the special are the same, excluding  Non-Elemental , the attack is increased by a 1.5x damage multiplier.

Note: The Divine Dragoon special field applies a 1.5x damage multiplier only to its own spells of Divine DG Cannon and Divine DG Ball.

Trivia

  1. Although the game identifies the color of  Thunder  as magenta, its hue in HSL is ~273 which rests between blue (240) and magenta (300) making the actual color violet.
