'''Chapter 1: Serdian War'''
=== | After the opening FMV, Dart Feld is introduced; Sitting down, taking a break on his return home, reading the headline of a paper that says "Chance of war more likely". This is further reinforced when Dart hears the pounding of hoofs on a well-traveled forest path not far from the rock he is on. Moving to investigate, he cuts off the advance of two soldiers who were lagging behind the primary force that passed by. An abrupt exchange is halted between them when the dragon Feyrbrand is added into the mix. The two soldiers scatter, and Dart is left to fend for himself, only to be saved moments later by Rose who grabs him and pulls him out of the sights of Feyrbrand. With the dragon unable to locate Dart, it moves on. This allows for a short conversation between Dart and Rose. This conversation spurs him to run to Seles, his hometown, as she mentions that his village is much too small to warrant the need of a dragon.

Coming over a hill, Dart is met with the sight of Seles smoldering from an overnight raid on the village. From here on is where Dart's involvement is cemented into the story.

'''Seles''' | |||
Despite being Dart's hometown, a lot of the characters inside of the village have no names attached to them, offering flavor text at best. However, there are four characters that are worth mentioning, excluding the Commander, a minor boss who is presented before encountering the others: Plos, Isha, Lowe, and Master Tasman. They will generally be encountered in this order upon entering.
Dart fends off two stragglers-one of which runs away-of the occupying Sandoran forces on the edge of the village to save a non-descript Villager who is about to be killed for no reason other than entertainment. After the engagement, the villager only gets enough time to talk about Imperial Sandora disregarding a truce that was made with Seles and rescuing Shana, then passes in the spot Dart found him. Advancing onward, Dart comes to the center of the village to find a familiar face resting face-down on the ground, Plos. Assisting him to lean up against a nearby destroyed cottage, they exchange solemn greetings, part of which is Plos wishing Dart had arrived only a little sooner. Dart has just enough time to listen to Plos speak about Shana being taken away, that she was the primary target of the occupying Sandoran forces. Thereafter, the Commander of the Sandoran party comes running in to deal with Dart, whom is being an upstart as it is safe to assume the soldier who ran from him moments ago reported to the Commander since one of the first things he says to Dart is, "Besting a private is no reason to be confident". The hubris of the Commander is on display, as he himself is explaining they took Shana to Hellena Prison, but that Dart won't be following after her as the Commander will stop him.
After defeating the commander, Plos asks if Dart is going to rescue Shana. With a nod from Dart, Plos ensures he won't stop him, but also states that Dart's current journey isn't over. This posits that Dart is only returning back to Seles as a stop gap in his quest. Plos alleviates Dart's burden of obligation to the village by saying that there's enough of them left to rebuild on their own. In this, Dart returns the favor to Plos, vowing to return when he ties up the loose ends on his journey with Shana in tow. After all of this, Plos relaxes against the wall of the cottage.
The next encounter is Isha, and Lowe; Although being hard to miss, they are an optional encounter that activates when entering the door of the cottage that Plos is resting against. The two children can be seen inside before entering, and upon doing so, they will bolt out of the building forcing Dart to move to the side. Exclaiming loudly they're going to get revenge, it appears they've mistaken Dart for a Sandoran occupier, and he tells them to knock it off and that it's just him, a familiar face. The children exaggerate that the soldiers killed everybody in the village, but Dart corrects them that that's not the case and they should help with rebuilding. Isha and Lowe both take initiative by rushing to grab medicinal herbs.
Up next is Master Tasman, whom is Dart's mentor in swordplay. He insists he did his best to fend off the forces, and got injured in the process of doing so. Sadly, he was outnumbered, and unable to follow through. Despite all of this, he challenges Dart to a duel to test his resolve, and see if he has what it takes to rescue Shana from Hellena Prison. Ironically, the duel with Master Tasman is more of a tutorial than anything else to ensure the player understands how to play the game before leaving Seles.
'''Forest''' | |||
Nearing the end of the Forest, Dart is set upon by a canine-like creature with a horn. He yells at it, and scares it away, but it triggers an old memory of one of the escapades he had with Shana in the same spot where Shana is in the lead, and Dart is following behind. Crossing a fallen tree trunk over a ravine, Shana is set upon by an identical creature spurring Dart to jump in front and scare it away just as he had before the memory began. This implies that Shana is the explorer, and Dart, the protector. A fleeting memory it may be, it serves to reinforce the protectorate side of Dart, convincing him to push forward and rescue Shana from Hellena Prison.

Dart's Divine Dragoon Form is much more powerful. Getting this Dragoon Spirit will automatically set his Dragoon level to 5, regardless of what level it was before. One important thing to note is that the status page in-game will still reflect the red-eyed dragoon stats. The correct stats are listed below.

Chapter 1: Serdian War
After the opening FMV, Dart Feld is introduced; Sitting down, taking a break on his return home, reading the headline of a paper that says "Chance of war more likely". Trivia
- While Dart is the field character, standing still for a time will cause his idle animation to play. He will cross his arms and tap his foot on the ground, as if to show that he's waiting to proceed.
- When dispirited in combat, his idle animation will put his arms to each side, hanging downward along with his sword.
- At the point of "red" HP, he will be down on one knee with sword angled to the ground behind him.
- There is a leftover "beta" character model of Dart for use on field maps, with orange armor and lower overall resolution. This model is actually used in at least one in-game cutscene. When Dart, Lavitz and Shana are fleeing from Hellena Prison on horseback, look at Dart's 3D model closely (or pause with video footage).
- Dart's addition, Madness Hero, generates the mose base SP in the game (204 SP at max level).
- Dart is the only known character to wield two Dragoon Spirits. This theme is reminiscent of other "leader" types as displayed in productions such as Power Rangers (Tommy), and Avatar (Jake Sully).
- Dart was going to be in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale as DLC alongside Abe from the Oddworld series. Character artist Mike Edwards even created a 3D model for the game, but the plans were canceled.
- Originally, Dart's sword did not have a red hilt. It looked a bit different overall, and is still present and used in the game. Watch closely during his transformation sequence at the end of the game.
