Seles is a small village near the southeastern border of Serdio. It is the current hometown of Dart and Shana. As Dart returns from a five-year journey in pursuit of the Black Monster, he finds the village in ruin.

Story

In the opening cutscene, the ground is set ablaze by order of Fruegel, head warden of Hellena Prison. Soldiers advance on horseback as villagers flee. The Great Commander rides into the village, escorted to where Shana has been captured. After a short discussion with the Hooded Man, she is taken away to Hellena.

The aftermath is witnessed by the protagonist after Dart confronts two soldiers leaving Seles and then is rescued by a woman from a dragon. Dart asks the woman about the dragon, and the woman answers that the dragon is related to the war. Realizing that Seles must have been targeted, Dart rushes to the site where he finds some buildings still smoldering. He enters the village and encounters some stragglers from the attack, drawing his sword to protect the remaining villagers.

Further into town, Dart comes across his friend Plos, who is one of the few survivors. Plos elaborates on how Shana, Dart's childhood friend, has been captured. He explicitly notes that she was taken away and was the soldiers' purpose for targeting the village. Dart is left with no time to digest this information, as he is approached by the Commander. The Commander reveals that Shana has been taken to Hellena Prison, then charges forward to attack. After defeating him, Dart promises Plos that he will return with Shana.

Dart finds a few more survivors. Among them is his old sword master Tasman. Tasman challenges Dart, wanting to ensure his old pupil is strong enough to take on Hellena. This battle is optional and only serves as a tutorial. Dart then sets out on his new quest to rescue Shana.

Trivia

1. This is the first location where named NPCs can be missed by the player. These two children, Isha and Lowe, can be encountered by entering the first house closest to Dart (right) after exiting the post-battle cutscene with Plos.
2. Leftover on the game disc is an unused screen of Seles. It looks nearly identical to the larger town square area, but a less quality. When accessed by external means, the player can move around the scene as a draft version of Dart's 3D model.
