Dragon Campaign
The Dragon Campaign was a legendary war between humans and Winglies. After much suffering, the oppressed rose up to sever the chains of fate that bound them. The world was forever changed, as Winglies were unseated from their superiority.
History
Some time after the birth of Winglies from the Divine Tree, a significant portion of them began to treat other species as inferior. Many species were subjugated, even to the point of being forced to fight each other to the death in a coliseum within Kadessa. Eventually, a human named Diaz found the courage to stand in defiance to his oppressors. He began rallying fellow humans to his cause, gathering in numbers and inciting rebellion. During a speech at Fort Magrad, he formally declared war on the Winglies.
At some point, Vellweb became the capital for the oppressed. Diaz gathered more and more victims and their training began. This would become the foundation for the Liberation Army. However, regular warriors would not be enough.
Eventually, humans discovered a secret about Dragons. Specifically, they learned that when Dragons die their eyes merge into a singular gem. If harvested at the moment of a Dragon's death, the Dragoon Spirit is activated and can be used by sentient wielders who can tame the beast within. This discovery gave the rebellion the power they needed to rival the magical prowess of Winglies and obtain their freedom. Thus it became known as the Dragon Campaign.
Winglies found this to be a serious threat, but had already harnessed the magical power of the Virage Embryo via the Crystal Sphere. They also learned how to spawn Virage at will without birthing the embryo, using them as an answer to the rebellion's newfound Dragoons and Dragons. Led by Diaz, Dragoons would fight alongside the Liberation Army, bringing the war to the five floating cities of the Winglies as well as the floating mobile fortress Flanvel. One by one, each would fall, until the last battle at Kadessa.
There, in the final battle, Dragoons would fight many Virage as well as at least one Super Virage in their effort to sack the capital. Kanzas would sacrifice himself to clear the latter, as the others pressed on. Rose's vassal Dragon, Michael, was present to defeat many Virage in aerial melee combat as well as using a special laser to eliminate several at once. Meanwhile, Zieg would engage the dictator Melbu Frahma directly - his Dragoon form against Melbu's Crystal Sphere and Dragon Buster. Zieg struck a fatal blow, but in that moment Melbu would petrify Zieg and embed his essence within the Dragoon Spirit in a last-ditch effort to survive. They both fell, as Kadessa finally began to destabilize and crumble. The Crystal Sphere would also be broken, releasing the soul of the 108th fruit to begin a tragic new cycle in search of Moon Children.
As the city fell, Belzac stopped a structure from crushing himself and Shirley. However, he could not escape as a Virage had impaled his entire chest. Thanks to his Dragoon power and sheer will, Belzac managed to keep the column up as long as he could. The Virage began charging its primary laser, whereby Shirley knocked a magical arrow aimed in that direction. Zieg's petrification overtakes him, as he utters his final words and tells Rose to save herself. The Dragon Campaign would result in a victory for humans and all oppressed species, but at great cost.
