Items are consumable resources providing a variety of effects. They are useable either in or out of battle, or both, with some items even having differing effects depending on when they are used. Because there is a limit of 32 items that may be held at a time and magic is cast mostly by using items, item management is fairly important. Items are useable in battle by selecting the "Item" command. Outside of battle, items may be used from the"Use Item" option on the In-Game Menu accessible by pressing the Triangle button. Items which cannot be used outside of battle may be viewed, sorted, and discarded from the "Inventory" option.
Goods
Goods are unique items typically required to progress the main story. They may be viewed from the Goods options on the System Screen. Once acquired, Goods may not be discarded by the player but are sometimes removed from inventory by story events.

Other items include Goods, or quest items, which are important items often necessary for story progression. They can be viewed from the "Goods" option on the In-Game Menu but may not be discarded. Sometimes, they are removed from inventory by story events. Equipment is another type of item that modifies the party characters' stats and combat behavior. Equipment may also be viewed, sorted, and discarded from the "Inventory" option but must be equipped with the "Equipment" option.
War Bulletin
Special Edition shows tension among Sandora and Serdio.

Recovery Items
The War Bulletin is a missive already in inventory at game start where Dart can be seen reading it. It has no use.
Recovery items bestow an assortment of beneficial effects. Most are useable both inside and outside of battle. The exceptions are Angel's Prayer because knocked out characters are revived with 1 HP after each battle, Depetrifier because the Petrifaction status ailment is removed after each battle, and Recovery Ball.
Father's Stone
A mysterious stone from Dart's father. Glows when held.

Repeat Items
Otherwise called the Prison Key, the Key to Shana's Cell is found in the corner of a room at the top of the first tower inside Hellena Prison. It is required to open a locked gate in order to progress the story and rescue Shana.
Repeat items are especially useful items with a variety of effects such as buffing characters or debuffing enemies. Unlike the other items in this article, repeat items are semi-consumable. They may only be used once per battle, but they are returned to the player after each battle. Most of them are found exclusively in chests in the world with the exception of the Psychedelic Bomb X, which is acquired through a story event. Two of these items can be permanently missed.
