Limestone Cave is the fifth accessible area in the first disc of Legend of the Dragoon. It is located on the north end of Serdio, and serves as a passage between the Prairie and Bale. The party must pass through the cave so that Lavitz can report back to Albert about the events at Seles and Hellena. The Limestone Cave is a treacherous place, where rushing water and slick surfaces make it difficult for the party to get around. It also contains several unique enemies that the party has not encountered before, including enemies that can induce the poison effect (needs confirmation). At the center of a cave lurks the deadly serpent Urobolos.

Story

Upon entrance, the viewer is met with a scenic image that suggests the nautical landscape of Virgil. There is the constant rush of flowing water that filters into the cavern, soon swallowed by the shadows with the light. True to its name, the limestone cave is composed of stone walls and floors. Dart maneuvers his way through the caves collecting numerous items along the way. The second room from the entrance brings a water slide, light striking the waters opportunistically as its refractions glimmer across the cave's base.

The party travels through the caverns river through the means of hopping over stepping stones. On the second to last stone, Lavitz trips and is immediately seized by the reflexive Dart. Together they return safely to solid ground, exasperated by the adrenaline of it all. Lavitz thanks Dart for saving his life, a second time, to which Dart cooly responds, "I was just there." Lavitz shows appreciation for the relationship, shamelessly thanking Dart. Shana feels left out, pleading after the duo and their blossoming kinship. After, the party dives further into the depths of the cavern. Here, only the gossamer-light of fireflies snuffed every heartbeat, only to rekindle, greet the party. But, they bring a second calling, the ability to heal and refresh. A dialogue is triggered and Shana reiterates her feelings- that she feels left out. Dart shows Shana that the fireflies have healing power. At this moment, the youthfulness of Shane is portrayed as she tries to martyr secrets over Dart's head, perhaps intimidated by his newfound maturity and knowledge since their departure 5 years prior. Lavitz reminisces about Bale and they agree to once again, set on track. The party travels through the cavern. As they approach the southern side, the exit peaks from the shadows. However, between them and the exit is a long path. Moments later, that is not the only thing between them. Shana and Lavitz are keen to its arrival, the cave guardian Urobolus. Dart rushes ahead to deliver a final blow and Urobolus falls to the floor. The party make their way towards the Castle, Shana slowly trailing behind. She stops, to cast a forlorn glance at the former guardian. Urobolus is still alive and strikes. Dart rushes ahead but the monster's fangs are met with radiating beams of light. Shane is glowing, and within seconds the beast is dissipated in her rays. The other two are dumbfounded as Shana, confused, falls to the floor. Dart inquires what happened and Shana is equally confused. She rises to her feet and upon Lavitz's suggestion, they continue their way towards Bale.

Trivia

  1. The Bandana gear acquired seems useless, as Dart already has a Bandana and Lavitz comes with a headgear that surpasses it. While wholly unnecessary, it is worth noting that the player can equip this new Bandana on Lavitz in order to give the Sallet to Dart. This technique is marginally more useful as the game progresses,in times when spare gear is low but you wish to move a piece of equipment from one character to another.
