Dragon Campaign
The Dragon Campaign was a legendary war of liberation where several oppressed races rose up against their Wingly rulers. Widespread death and destruction were inflicted on both sides until the Royal Capital of Kadessa was razed by the Dragoons ending the war. With the Winglies defeated, the remaining races obtained their freedom although Dragons seemingly vanished. Even 11,682 years later, there are many who still know about the war and several books make reference to it. As a result of losing the war, the surviving Winglies offered three Divine Moon Objects as a peace offering. The Humans would go on to create the three countries of Serdio, Tiberoa, and Mille Seseau, with each keeping one of these relics under the guard of their Royals. Their previous nation of Gloriano was largely reduced to an uninhabitable wasteland later known as the Death Frontier.[1]
History
The Age of Winglies, more than ~11,000 years ago
After their birth from the Divine Tree, the majority of Winglies began to treat other species as inferior. Many were subjugated, even to the point of being forced to fight each other to the death in a coliseum within Kadessa. A Human named Diaz rallied the oppressed races to join his cause and incite rebellion. During a speech at Fort Magrad addressing the Liberation Army, he formally declared war on the Winglies. The Moderate Wingly faction headed by Charle Frahma aided the Liberation Army, showcasing the political divide amongst Winglies at the time.
The Dragon Campaign, ~11,000 years ago
As Diaz's influence spread, his resistance movement grew into a holy empire known as Gloriano.[2] There, humanity discovered that the eyes of Dragons combined into one at the moment of death and could be taken at that critical moment.[2] This crystallization of a Dragon's power came to be known as a Dragoon Spirit. Those recognized by such gems gained the ability to fly, cast powerful spells, and command Dragons. Known as Dragoons, these warriors and their Dragons bolstered the rebellion's forces to threaten the Winglies.
As a countermeasure, Winglies manipulated Virage to serve as soldiers and fashioned two potent magical artifacts known as the Dragon Black Staff and Dragon Buster. Despite these additions, countless Winglies died over the course of the war.
Within Vellweb, the capital of Gloriano, seven towers were constructed to honor the Dragoons who were spearheading the war effort.
Led by Zieg Feld, the seven Dragoons brought down the floating mobile fortress Flanvel and targeted five floating cities of the Winglies: the Magical City Aglis, the Birth City Crystal Palace, the Death City Mayfil, the Law City Zenebatos, and the Royal Capital Kadessa. After successfully felling the first four cities, they began their final assault on Kadessa. Rose's vassal Dragon, Michael, defeated several Virage in aerial melee with a beam of Darkness magic. Most of the Dragoons lost their lives in the attack on Kadessa.
- Kanzas self-destructed in an attempt to destroy a Super Virage.
- Belzac held back a collapsing building to protect Shirley even with a Virage's finger impaling his chest.
- Shirley sought to avenge Belzac's imminent death, and attacked the Virage only to be caught in the explosion of its magical attack and hers colliding.
- How Damia and Syuveil died is not revealed.
Around the same time, Zieg mortally wounded the Wingly dictator Melbu Frahma despite the latter wielding the Dragon Buster. Although Melbu initially drew endless magical power from the Crystal Sphere, it was broken during the battle. This released the soul of the 108th fruit allowing it to transmigrate into a Human vessel every 108 years, beginning the legend of the Moon Child. Melbu embedded his own soul into the Red-Eye Dragoon Spirit and cast a petrifying curse upon Zieg turning him to stone. The fall of the royal capital and the death of the Wingly dictator signaled the end of the war.
