The Dragon Block Staff is a magical Wingly artifact created to diminish the power of Dragons and Dragoons. Dart and company are on a quest to retrieve it, in order to stop the Divine Dragon's attacks. The staff is protected by a powerful guardian in ruins leftover from the Dragon Campaign.
History
This staff has been passed down through generations of Winglies. It is said to have kept the Divine Dragon sealed for over 10,000 years. At some point before or after that, it was hidden in the former Wingly capital Kadessa - now known as the Forbidden Land.
Present
With the Divine Dragon free from its magical prison in Mortal Dragon Mountain, Dart and company think about how to defeat the Dragon before it can cause more damage. The staff's possible whereabouts are revealed by Meru, who believes it is located in the Wingly Forest. Miranda joins the group to ensure the party is capable of handling the job, and they go to the Evergreen Forest. To the north, a secret path is revealed whereby Meru is confirmed to be a Wingly.
The party arrives in the Wingly Forest, met with immediate hostility. They plea for support, and by order of Ancestor Blano are permitted to enter. Arriving near the top of the village, the group speaks with Blano asking for his support against the Divine Dragon. He reveals that he knew they were coming, admitting that the times won't leave Winglies alone. Blano states that both parties must combine their strengths to overcome the Divine Dragon, or no one will survive. Winglies can no longer master the staff, but it is believed that Dragoons may be able to use it.He reveals that the Dragon Buster is lost, but that the Dragon Block Staff is still safe and accounted for. Despite some difficulty with the teleportation system, Blano and several Winglies channel their magic so that the party can retrieve the staff.
Having been sealed in the ruins of Kadessa, the Dragon Block Staff is protected by a magical guardian. The party navigates the grand ruins, eventually arriving in a special chamber. The staff appears to be embedded in a large, rocky formation of some kind. Miranda notes that it doesn't appear impressive, but Rose rebuts that the appearance of an object doesn't correlate to its magical prowess. She goes on to convey that the Divine Dragon was sealed because it could not be tamed nor killed. Meru proceeds to retrieve the staff, when a sudden rumbling shakes the area violently. A large object dislodges itself from the ceiling, flipping over so that the staff is upright atop a large, strange mass of dark material and golden glows. A battle ensues with the powerful guardian Grand Jewel. After the party defeats the guardian, the staff descends slowly and is claimed by the party. They head back to the Wingly Forest, as the Divine Dragon flies overhead.
The party races to the Mountain of Mortal Dragon. As the navigate the mountainous terrain, sounds of a battle are heard from afar. The party moves in to find out what's going on. As they get close, the find that Lloyd has already engaged and heavily weakened the Divine Dragon. Lloyd is fatigued, and the Dragon lets out a mighty roar. Dart and the party steel themselves, charging into battle. Dart uses the Dragon Block Staff right away, limiting the Dragon's power (and that of Dragoons). Despite the Dragon already being weakened by Lloyd as well as the staff, the battle is quite difficult. The party is victorious, the Divine Dragon is felled, and Lloyd swoops back in to claim the Divine Dragoon Spirit. The Dragon Block Staff broke during the battle, marking the last time it was ever used.
Use in Combat
In combat, the Dragon Block Staff always diminishes the power of Dragoons and Dragons. However, its exact effects vary among the three battles it makes an appearance in. In all cases, the staff does not reduce the effects of Dragoon Magic which involve healing and defensive buffs, making it effective to transform for short periods at a time.
Grand Jewel
If Dragoons are used in the battle, the Grand Jewel will activate the power of the staff. While the effect is active, Dragoons deal 10% damage and receive 10x as much damage.
Divine Dragon
At the start of battle with the Divine Dragon, Dart will activate the Dragon Block Staff. This causes the staff to break, but its effects will remain until the battle is over. Dragoons will deal only 40% of normal damage, while taking 4x damage. The Divine Dragon is weakened as well, but its stats do not change; implying that its stats only reflect the weakened state.
Melbu Frahma
Melbu Frahma will use this ability in his final phase if targeted by a Dragoon Magic attack. Like the original effect from Grand Jewel, Dragoons will deal 10% of normal damage and receive 10x more damage than normal.
