Serdio

Serdio is the east most country in Endiness, neighbored by Tiberoa to the northwest, Nissel to the southeast, and Seilnder to the northeast. It is also bordered by two seas: the Illisa Bay to the north, and the Aquaria Coral Reef to the south. While much of the land is verdant with forests, grasslands, and marshes, the land is nearly bisected by a mountain range running from north to south with a volcano near its center. A second mountain range runs along the northwest, acting as a natural boundary with most of Tiberoa.

History

Founded ~11,000 years ago after the events of the Dragon Campaign, much of Serdio's history is relatively unknown. At some point, sealing the Moon Gem within the body of each crown heir became an established tradition. Over twenty years ago, Carlo ruled the country as king, but was murdered by his brother Doel who declared himself emperor. However, half of the country rejected his claim to the throne and instead granted the position of king to Carlo's son Albert even though he was only six at the time. This issue of succession sparked the Serdian War, as loyalties splintered. Southern Serdio became the territory of Imperial Sandora, ruled by Doel, while Northern Serdio became the territory of the Kingdom of Basil, ruled by Albert.

While conflict between the two factions was always present, the balance of power kept the war of succession in a stalemate for 20 years. This was shattered when Doel was given two Dragons and two Dragoon Spirits to control them, allowing his forces to easily overwhelm the opposition. Were it not for Basil incidentally attaining two Dragoons to fight on their behalf, the war likely would have swiftly ended in Sandora's victory. Throughout the conflict Sandora suffered multiple losses: being repelled from Hoax, the death of their Dragon, and the loss of a Dragoon Spirit. Although they briefly attained the upper hand by capturing Albert and occupying Bale, he was rescued before he could be executed, and the prison where he was held fell. Ultimately, Albert slew Doel, and Sandora was absorbed back into Basil reunifying the country.

Kingdom of Basil
Citizens under Albert's rule tend to live comfortably, so most support his rule. The capital city of Bale possesses an outdoor marketplace with many stalls and has amenities such as fountains, canals, and a public library. Similarly, the houses in the town of Hoax are well stocked with food, furniture, and other goods. It is unknown if Seles was similar due to much of it being destroyed by Sandora. Alongside their robust economy, their Knighthoods are well equipped and maintained.

Imperial Sandora
Military funding and research is prioritized over economic growth, as most citizens within the capital city of Kazas are impoverished and living in squalor. There are no public amenities, instead soldiers patrol the streets to maintain order by force. Many have fallen on such hard times that they've taken to living communally in a run down fort. While Lohan is also within Sandora's territory and boasts the best economy of any city within Serdio, this is more due to its position as a neutral city. This allows the town to profit off both factions, while also allaying any fears of being attacked by either. As the war nears its end, most citizens of Sandora openly denounce Doel, with some even fleeing the country to settle elsewhere. Although their economy is struggling, their military benefits from the magical research being carried out using a Dragon.

1. There are different spellings of Serdio in some of the official reference material, which may be typos or the result of resources (either in game or external) not being synchronized before being released.
   1. The booklet that came with physical copies of the the NA release used Serdia.
   2. The highest resolution image of the world map currently found was discovered in the EU press disc and uses Saludio. Additionally, many of the names found on this version of the world map are changed, with some being so different that it would be functionally impossible to be a typo (for example, Northern Serdio is written as Virgil.)
