The party make their way through the city to Indels Castle and meet with King Albert and [[Minister Noish]]. At the castle throne room, Albert is pleased [[Lavitz]] has returned safely as Noish teases Albert about his worrying. Lavitz reports on his time at [[Hellena Prison]] and introduces [[Dart]] and [[Shana]]. He credits Dart with helping him escape, which Albert is grateful for and offers any favor in return. Dart requests to have Shana stay at the castle to be protected from [[Sandora]]. Shana protests against this request, saying she wants to continue journeying with Dart. Albert informs Dart he cannot fulfill the request as not even the castle is safe from Sandora due to their use of a [[Dragon]] in battle. Dart warns Shana their journey may become more dangerous, but Shana is content to stay with him, which Albert also points out.

According to Minister Noish, the Black Monster is a "devil that disobeyed the great existence," it "devoured the god," and it first appeared 11,000 years ago after the Dragon Campaign ended. Not having any further information about the Black Monster, Noish instead tells Dart about the [[Dragon Campaign]], a military conflict 11,000 years earlier in which humans, championed by [[Diaz|Emperor Diaz]] and seven [[Dragoon|"incarnations of dragons,"]] revolted against their [[Wingly]] oppressors and won their independence.
With that settled, Dart asks Minister Noish for any information about the [[Black Monster]]. Noish notes that any records about the Black Monster were all burned, so little is known about him besides that he seeks to "devour the god" and that he first appeared 11,000 years ago.  The Black Monster's appearance coincides with the end of the [[Dragon Campaign]].  
Not having any further information about the Black Monster, Noish decides to tell Dart about the Dragon Campaign in which a figure named [[Emperor Diaz]] used seven dragons to liberate humans from their subjugation by the [[Winglies]]. After the story, King Albert is called to a war meeting. Before heading off with Lavitz, he encourages Dart and Shana to see the view outside on the castle balcony, and to think on what they will do next.

The discussion is interrupted by a Praetorian of Basil who enters the throne room to inform Albert that a war meeting is convening. Albert offers Dart and Shana the hospitality of Indels Castle. Shana decides to take a look at Bale from a balcony, and Dart follows.


Out on the balcony, Dart and Shana wonder if the people in Seles are safe. Lavitz returns from the war meeting and tells them Seles is safe but will need to time to rebuild. However, Sandora is planning to use their dragon to attack the fort town of [[Hoax]], which is Basil's last line of defence. Lavitz tells them he must go help defend the fort. Dart is outraged a dragon would be used in battle. After musing over his selfish pursuit of the Black Monster and almost having his home destroyed by another monster, Dart decides he will help Lavitz defend Hoax and finish the war before looking for the Black Monster. Shana comments on Dart's stubbornness before stating she will also help. Lavitz is touched by Dart and Shana's willingness to help and suggests they all go shopping to prepare and to visit his mother before leaving for Hoax.
On the balcony, Dart and Shana wonder about the current state of [[Seles]]. They are joined by Lavitz, who overhears their conversation and assures them that his aide reported that Seles is mostly safe. He also informs them that intelligence indicates that Sandora is mobilizing the Dragon to attack [[Hoax]] and that he is being dispatched to defend it. Dart becomes distraught, regrettably remarking that he has "lived only for himself." He announces his intent to go with Lavitz in order to defend innocent people from harm. Questioned by Lavitz about his quest for the Black Monster, Dart says that ending the war is more important. Shana agrees. Moved by their determination, Lavitz suggests preparing for the trip and invites them to meet his mother.


The party head back in the city to Slambert Plaza, where they visit the Slambert residence. Lavitz is welcomed by his mother, who was worried by his extended absence. Lavitz gives an explanation omitting his detention at Hellena Prison. Dart tries to bring it up, but Shana and Lavitz stop him, not wanting to worry Lavitz' mother, who is joyful her son returned regardless of what happened. Lavitz' mother is then overjoyed when she notices Lavitz brought a woman with him. Lavitz' mother assumes, to her son's dismay, that Shana is his fiance. Dart may either disapprove or encourage this idea, but either way Lavitz escapes the situation by saying Shana is Dart's girlfriend. Shana willingly goes along with Lavitz' explanation, while Dart does so reluctantly. Lavitz' mother apologizes for the misunderstanding and asks Lavitz to find a wife. Lavitz informs his mother he has duties at and cannot stay the night, but his mother has the party stay for lunch. Shana offers to help cook, which Lavitz' mother turns down at first but then decides to accept.
The party heads back through the city to a district called Slambert Plaza, named after [[Servi|Lavitz's father]], where they visit the Slambert residence. Lavitz's mother welcomes him home, relieved to see him after an extended absence. Lavitz gives an explanation omitting his detention at Hellena Prison. Dart tries to bring it up, but Shana and Lavitz stop him in order to avoid upsetting the knight's mother.


Dart and Lavitz wait in the living room, deciding what to do until lunch. Dart makes a few suggestions not to Lavitz' liking, but they ultimately settle for having a tour of the house. Lavitz tells Dart a little about each room they enter until they arrive at the house library. Lavitz invites Dart up to the roof to see his "treasure". On the roof they see a good view of Indels Caslte, and Lavitz describes his childhood dream of being a knight who defends his country like his father did. Lavitz tells Dart he would sacrifice his body to protect Basil and that Dart feels the same way about Shana. He reminds Dart that only Dart can protect Shana when the country is at war. The two are called to lunch from the kitchen, and Lavitz says the "princess" is waiting. Before heading down, Dart comments to himself that Shana is more like a younger sibling than a princess.
Now noticing Shana, Lavitz' mother rejoices to see that Lavitz has brought a bride home with him. Dart may either disapprove or encourage this idea, but either way, Lavitz rectifies the mistake by saying that Shana is Dart's girlfriend. Shana willingly goes along with Lavitz' explanation while Dart does so reluctantly. Lavitz' mother apologizes for the misunderstanding and asks Lavitz to find a wife. She also implores Lavitz to stay home for the night, but he declines, citing the urgency with which he must report to Hoax. At his mother's behest, he agrees to at least stay for lunch. Shana volunteers to help cook.


After lunch, Lavitz compliments his mother for the meal then notes to the party they have to prepare for Hoax. If the part decides to tell Lavitz' mother they are ready to leave, she suggest they stay for the night, asks if they have everything, and offers Lavitz his favorite jerky. Lavitz turns down the jerky and says everything is ready, but then remembers to give his mother a hug for luck. Lavitz takes his mother's suggestion to stay the night, and Dart and Shana leave for bed. Lavitz decides to take the jerky, which his mom is thrilled he has accepted.
In the meanwhile, Lavitz takes Dart on a tour of the house. Of note is a knick on a doorframe that Dart mistakes for Lavitz having swung a sword, but Lavitz clarifies that he measured his height when he was young. Dart teases that he cannot imagine Lavitz as a child. Another point of interest is the library where Lavitz offers to show Dart his "treasure," which turns out to be a marvelous view of Indels Castle from a rooftop accessible via a window. Lavitz reminisces about his father and his desire to follow in his footsteps as an admired knight. He compares his passion for protecting the people of Basil to the passion Dart must have felt when he raided Hellena in order to rescue Shana.


Once the party is ready to go, they exit out of Bale but bump into [[Martel]], who was in a rush. There is a slight argument between Dart and Martel. Shana loudly defends Dart, which causes Martel's baby to start crying. Martel asks Shana to be quieter, and Shana apologizes. Martel attempts to soothe her baby as she rushes off into Bale. The party is confused as to what happened but continue on to Hoax.
Shana calls to them to announce that lunch is ready. Lavitz jokes that "the princess needs us." Before he goes, Dart muses to himself that Shana is more like a baby sister than a princess.

|Services=Bale contains every type of service including an Item Shop and Weapon Shop where the player may acquire better equipment. It has both a Hotel, which restores HP, and a Clinic, which removes status ailments. The Hotel and Clinic both cost 10G per use, but the player can acquire the effects of both for free by agreeing to stay the night with Lavitz's mother.

With that settled, Dart asks Minister Noish for information about the Black Monster. Minister Noish notes that all records about the Black Monster were lost to fire, so little is known about him. According to Minister Noish, the Black Monster is a "devil that disobeyed the great existence," it "devoured the god," and it first appeared 11,000 years ago after the Dragon Campaign ended. Not having any further information about the Black Monster, Noish instead tells Dart about the Dragon Campaign, a military conflict 11,000 years earlier in which humans, championed by Emperor Diaz and seven "incarnations of dragons," revolted against their Wingly oppressors and won their independence.

The discussion is interrupted by a Praetorian of Basil who enters the throne room to inform Albert that a war meeting is convening. Albert offers Dart and Shana the hospitality of Indels Castle. Shana decides to take a look at Bale from a balcony, and Dart follows.

On the balcony, Dart and Shana wonder about the current state of Seles. They are joined by Lavitz, who overhears their conversation and assures them that his aide reported that Seles is mostly safe. He also informs them that intelligence indicates that Sandora is mobilizing the Dragon to attack Hoax and that he is being dispatched to defend it. Dart becomes distraught, regrettably remarking that he has "lived only for himself." He announces his intent to go with Lavitz in order to defend innocent people from harm. Questioned by Lavitz about his quest for the Black Monster, Dart says that ending the war is more important. Shana agrees. Moved by their determination, Lavitz suggests preparing for the trip and invites them to meet his mother.

The party heads back through the city to a district called Slambert Plaza, named after Lavitz's father, where they visit the Slambert residence. Lavitz's mother welcomes him home, relieved to see him after an extended absence. Lavitz gives an explanation omitting his detention at Hellena Prison. Dart tries to bring it up, but Shana and Lavitz stop him in order to avoid upsetting the knight's mother.

Now noticing Shana, Lavitz' mother rejoices to see that Lavitz has brought a bride home with him. Dart may either disapprove or encourage this idea, but either way, Lavitz rectifies the mistake by saying that Shana is Dart's girlfriend. Shana willingly goes along with Lavitz' explanation while Dart does so reluctantly. Lavitz' mother apologizes for the misunderstanding and asks Lavitz to find a wife. She also implores Lavitz to stay home for the night, but he declines, citing the urgency with which he must report to Hoax. At his mother's behest, he agrees to at least stay for lunch. Shana volunteers to help cook.

In the meanwhile, Lavitz takes Dart on a tour of the house. Of note is a knick on a doorframe that Dart mistakes for Lavitz having swung a sword, but Lavitz clarifies that he measured his height when he was young. Dart teases that he cannot imagine Lavitz as a child. Another point of interest is the library where Lavitz offers to show Dart his "treasure," which turns out to be a marvelous view of Indels Castle from a rooftop accessible via a window. Lavitz reminisces about his father and his desire to follow in his footsteps as an admired knight. He compares his passion for protecting the people of Basil to the passion Dart must have felt when he raided Hellena in order to rescue Shana.

Shana calls to them to announce that lunch is ready. Lavitz jokes that "the princess needs us." Before he goes, Dart muses to himself that Shana is more like a baby sister than a princess.

After lunch, Lavitz compliments his mother's cooking and notes to the party that they have to prepare for Hoax. If the party decides to tell Lavitz's mother that they are ready to leave, she again suggests that they stay for the night, asks if they have everything, and offers Lavitz his favorite jerky. Lavitz rejects the jerky but gives his mother a hug for luck. Lavitz accepts his mother's offer to stay the night after all, and Dart and Shana leave for bed. Lavitz decides to take the jerky much to her delight.

As they leave Bale, a woman, Martel, bumps into Dart. An argument about whose fault it is ensues with Shana loudly defending Dart, provoking Martel's baby to cry. Martel asks Shana to be quieter, and Shana apologizes. Martel attempts to soothe her baby as she rushes off into Bale. The party is confused as to what happened but continues on to Hoax.

Services

Bale contains every type of service including an Item Shop and Weapon Shop where the player may acquire better equipment. It has both a Hotel, which restores HP, and a Clinic, which removes status ailments. The Hotel and Clinic both cost 10G per use, but the player can acquire the effects of both for free by agreeing to stay the night with Lavitz's mother.

Save Points

There is one Save Point inside the Hotel.

Rest Areas

The Hotel and Clinic are marked by yellow icons when the position indicator is active. The Clinic is rather inconveniently placed, requiring the player to transition through several screens starting with a back alley on the way to Indels Castle.
