Legend of Dragoon will have its 25th anniversary next month! It’s pretty wild to think about, right? Most of us were just kids when we found LoD, and now we’re adults who have grown and changed so much.
And yet, LoD is still there, being replayed by thousands and thousands of fans every year. To this day there are so many people sharing their playthroughs, making fanart, and chatting in general. We have even come together for some wild projects such as the community-built PC port. The game has stood the test of time quite well, so let’s have a festival and celebrate 25 years!
Festival? Tell me more!
In short, it’s an intentional, celebratory atmosphere where we come together to reminisce and participate in fun activities. Starting tomorrow, November 16th we begin the preliminary festivities; ramping up to a big event on December 2nd. The festival will continue from there, as we have some fun stuff planned for the winter months as well!
Events & Activities
Our first event is later today in the form of a community livestream. I will host, inviting fans to join in and chat about the game, its impact, and how far we’ve come as a fandom. There will be some teasers as well as highlights of things fans have been up to lately. We might even play the game for the umpteenth time! You can tune in here.
As for activities, more of the same is a good start! Connect with fans on whichever platform you prefer whether it’s Discord, Reddit, Facebook, or the ol’ GameFAQs message board (their riddle game spanning 10+ years is astounding!). Let’s reminisce and talk about our favorite LoD things, while looking to the future.
We’ve also got oodles of community projects; many of which could use a hand! To get involved, introduce yourself on Discord. No obligation – even ten minutes can make a difference. Here are some examples:
- General Tasks: lots of little things need doing at any given moment. Taking screenshots, doing basic web searches, or even just finding us more volunteers.
- Enjoy writing? Consider being a wiki editor! Write story content, fill in simple tables, or help with templates/automation! No coding experience needed. Link to Wiki / Apply on Discord
- Artists! We’re looking for new emojis and stickers primarily for use on Discord, putting an LoD style on common things like face reactions. You can also start making and sharing random fanart for the festival!
- Fan Musicians! You can join in our second Music Mix project (link to first mix). This one is about Character themes. The tracks yet to be claimed are: Lloyd, Zieg (Melbu), and Dabas. You can also make an original theme for a character who doesn’t have one. We already got two submissions for Haschel and Miranda!!
- Bilingual? Help us translate stuff! Our long-time translation helper, Char, has been working hard to finish transcribing the Japanese Guidebook. Myself and others have also found lots of old Japanese magazines that covered LoD, including some juicy bits we will share throughout the festival (thanks Sadikyo!).
- Programmers! Seeking Android developer to help us create an Android build of Severed Chains. If you have the skill and interest, say hello in the #severed-chains channel of our Discord server.
