Mod Showcase – Legend of Tides

Legend of Dragoon is known for its interactive combat and dramatic story, but it’s also good at giving us some fun and relaxing activities. We can take in the sights, walk through the prairie, go down a waterslide, play dodgeball, and fail the obstacle course 108 times in a row. That said, an LoD afficionado like yourself could use some new content. I’m DrewUniverse – let’s look at a new gameplay mod for Legend of Dragoon, called Legend of Tides.

While this mod is active, you will notice fishing spots that can be found throughout Endiness – even in places you might not expect! Keep an eye out for spinning icons in the water, which indicate a fishing spot. When you get close, the list of fish will be displayed. Each spot has a different selection of fish to catch.

Before you can start fishing, you must buy fishing bait! The bait is sold by various merchants. Once you have bait, go to a fishing spot and begin the encounter.

Next, select your bait. The lead character in your party will toss the bait into the water. Wait for the fish to pull on the line – that’s the moment you strike! If you press the button at the right time, a capture sequence will begin.

This is the best part. You must guide your character by performing an elaborate pole dance. The character will swing the fishing line all over the place, which is highly efficient.

To speak plainly, it’s like the additions in normal combat. As the squares overlap, press the designated button to work towards a successful capture. If you miss, the line gets more fragile, and will eventually break. The line also deteriorates passively at a slow speed – what do you think this is, a turn-based game? Don’t flounder!

Holy mackerel, you caught a fish! There are many kinds you can obtain and they have different effects. Some fish can heal you. Others can provide buffs to your party. There are even some fish that can attack the enemy. Yeah, you heard me right – fish that go on the offensive. Now you can really kick some bass!

On top of that, there are many hidden items waiting for you to find them – including new weapons that show up visually in combat! If that doesn’t have you reeling, I don’t know what will.

You’re probably wondering: how do you get your hands on this mod!? It’s easy.

1. Download Severed Chains, a native port for Legend of Dragoon. Setup guides are listed there.
2. Download the Legend of Tides mod. Make sure you get the regular zip file – not the source code.
3. Place the unzipped files into the `/mods` subfolder of Severed Chains.
4. Enable the mod:
   • For a fresh playthrough: launch the game, and choose New Campaign. Select Mods, and enable Legend of Tides. Go back to the previous screen, and press Start when you’re ready.
   • For existing playthroughs: launch the game, and press Continue. At the Load Game screen, make sure your chosen campaign is highlighted. Press the designated key or button (shown at bottom of screen) to edit that campaign’s list of active mods. Enable Legend of Tides.
5. Once you load a save file, the mod will be active.

Please take note:

• Legend of Tides will receive updates with more content.
• The items and equipment in this mod can make battles a bit easier.
• This mod should be compatible with other mods in general.
