Transfer Save Data – Emulator to Severed Chains

In many cases, LoD fans like you are in the middle of a playthrough on emulator when they discover Severed Chains. If you don’t want to start over, this guide will show you how to carry over your progress.

Basically, all you need to do is copy your savedata (the virtual memory card file). If you’re used to dealing with virtual memcards, just chuck it into SC’s “/saves” subfolder.

Beware that this method is not compatible with recent Sony consoles like PS4 & PS5. It is intended for people who have been emulating with a desktop or laptop computer, mobile device, or aftermarket console.

Instructions

  1. Locate the file for the virtual memory card. Its location on your storage drive will vary depending on the program you’re using. All emulators should list the location somewhere in their settings menu. For example, if you’re using Duckstation, go to the file menu and choose Settings > Memory Cards.
  2. Using a file browser, copy this memcard file. Right click > Copy, or control+C.
  3. Go back to the SC folder, and open the “saves” subfolder. Paste the memcard file here. Right click empty space > Paste, or control+V.
  4. Run Severed Chains. On startup, the software should prompt you to convert the memcard data.
  5. The savedata will be unpacked and adapted for use with Severed Chains.
